Adai Tefera

Dr. Adai Tefera (she/her) currently serves as an assistant professor of special education at the University of Arizona's College of Education.

In her work, Dr. Tefera uses an interdisciplinary approach to examine how educational policies aimed at improving equity among multiply marginalized students with disabilities are enacted, interrupted, and resisted by students, families, educators, and leaders. Her recent work explores how historical, sociocultural, and spatial contexts, and racialized administrative burdens mediate responses to and understandings about racial disparities in special education. Dr. Tefera is the proud daughter of Ethiopian immigrants, and her commitment to education justice is shaped by her sister's and family's experiences with special education.
