Brittany N. Anderson

Assistant Professor of Urban Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Brittany N. Anderson is an Assistant Professor of Urban Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Brittany’s research focuses on pre-service and in-service teacher development in relation to the talent development and talent identification of minoritized youth. Brittany’s research also centers on the lived experiences of gifted Black girls and women, with an emphasis on their academic and social-emotional needs.

For the past several years, Brittany has been involved in the professional learning of teacher educators in urban schools, with an emphasis on cultural humility, anti-racist and culturally responsive/sustaining pedagogies, and gifted education. As a former gifted-identified student, first-generation scholar/graduate, and Black woman, her mixed-method approach centers the narratives and experiences of minoritized students in underserved communities and schools, that are often missing from gifted education research. Brittany is a 2022 National Science Foundation CAREER Scholar.
