Rebecca A. Cruz

Dr. Rebecca A Cruz is an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University in the Department of Innovative Teaching and Leadership, with a joint appointment in the Center for Safe and Healthy Schools.

Her research interests include using hierarchical linear and logistic models to understand contextual and structural mechanisms that contribute to inequities across time. Her theoretical background includes the perspective that disability is not an individual trait, but rather a product of political, social, and historical practices, and this relates to the conference theme in that understanding sociocultural and sociohistorical perspectives of disability are imperative in ameliorating inequities in special education. Rebecca is a former special education teacher, having worked in diverse urban school districts with multiple marginalized students.
